The 13 year member got a phone call that there was a memorial for one of his old friends - a former drinking buddy. The deceased had learned of his irreversible medical condition and went to a hotel to continue to drink his life away. His body gave out after two months. A sad day for many.

Opinions vary considerably as to why the alcoholic reacts differently from normal people. We are not sure why, once a certain point is reached, little can be done for him. We cannot answer the riddle.
